First day in paradise!

Now then people!

It's soooo nice to be back in Hawaii but instead of a-woo'ing the new girlfriend I'm serenading the wife!! :o) We're trying to fully exploit our happiness by telling everyone and anyone who will listen that we're on our honeymoon. So far it hasn't gotten us very far with the airline, hotel or restaurants BUT we did get a free upgrade to a convertible car so I can't grumble.

We started off our first day with a Starbucks, what else? Fully loaded with burned bean flavored overpriced coffee we took down Lola's top and took a drive up the eastern coast of O'ahu up to the north shore where we went to the Turtle Bay resort. For those movie geeks like me, you might be interested to know that this is where they set the film 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and where a lot of it was filmed.

Among other things, like the idyllic views and the white sand beaches, the resort has a KILLER breakfast which you can enjoy outside on a terrace overlooking said views and beaches. I had a crab, brie and spinach omelette while Ruthie sampled a few different things from the buffet.

After a few dips in the ocean and laying out on the beach for a while we decided to do some touring around. We drove west over to the north shore market place by Haleiwa in the middle of the north shore. Although we didn't technically make it formally to the actual market place (!) we did take a walk around the other shops just short of the market place which lined the dirt road, lots of little surf stores, arts / craft stores and eateries, pretty cool... we'll hit the proper market later in the week.

Another Starbucks to refuel the tanks and we made our way back down the eastern coastal route to spend our evening back in Waikiki. On the way we had a dance party, and although it doesn't look like it - we were only going 25 mph...!

The views of from our hotel room are gorgeous and we're right by the famous Waikiki beach, this evening we wanted to sit outside, drink cocktails, eat lots of fresh fish and watch the sun go down - we managed to do all of the above at Ocean Front, an incredible restaurant on the beach within the Outrigger Hotel.

The menu was amazing - so much fresh fish and other seafood to choose from. Here's a quick video we took BEFORE cocktails to show you the place a little bit (AWESOME!!)... in contrast to the second video that follows... a few cocktails later... :o)

Oh... and did I mention cocktails?? Oh... and did I mention Facebook and cocktails...? Yeah... check this out...

Anyway... we ate, we drank, we took photos, we drank some more, we ate some more and we had a load of fun. Let there be lots more!!

Let the Honeymoon BEGIN!

Hello friends!

Well we did it!  We got married!  Beautiful ceremony, wonderful friends, awesome music - and loads of quality time with our wonderful families!  Who could ask for anything more, you might ask??

Well, we could ask for more.  Just a little something - a little HONEYMOON in HAWAII!!!  Here's a look at our arrival day - was only a half day on the island of O'ahu, but still a lovely day, nonetheless!

After some tearful good byes (mainly James and Crumpet) we left Minnesota and hopped on a plane to Honolulu.  The flight was a smooth one - I had some tasty tapas while James slept...

We arrived at Honolulu International at 3:30 in the afternoon and promptly went to fetch our car - a Chrysler Sebring Convertible whom we named Lola (because she's red - and she's a showgirl).  A short drive to the Waikiki Parc Hotel and we discovered that as honeymooners we not only got Lei'd ...

...but we also got a little something in the room!  (or rather I may have had it waiting for James, but it was still a surprise for him!)

Then we got dressed and went out for a fancy dinner at Roy's!  (I had the Lobster Roll with the Macadamia nut fish for my main course - it was DELICIOUS.  James had the Flaming Dragon Roll, ate all his ginger and my ginger and he had a salad!)

And we both may have had some cocktails...

Finally - we have a tradition we started last year at Roy's with our friends Dietra and Jason:   I have to put all the umbrellas from our drinks in my hair...  It's a pretty big "to do"....  see below...

The staff at Roy's obliged me by offering multiple umbrellas...  Good times...  More on the full first day here from James!
